Job summary

Derby City Gaming Downtown in Louisville, KY is seeking a Cook I to join our kitchen team. The role focuses on safely preparing food items according to menu specifications and standard recipes.

You will operate kitchen equipment, read recipes, maintain cleanliness, and work with BOH staff to plate dishes and uphold food cost controls. A High School Diploma or GED and at least one year in food prep are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• One-year minimum experience in food preparation preferred.
• Ability to work both front and back line positions.
• Must complete required classes or certifications.
• Ability to obtain Racing License.

Responsibilities

• Operate kitchen equipment (slicer, steamer, fryer, ovens, grill, mixer, kettle, griddles).
• Read and measure recipes; perform required math.
• Read, write, speak and understand recipes; communicate with team.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas and equipment; sweep/mop floors.
• Assist staff to cook and plate all menu items.
• Control food costs and quality per procedures.
• Follow health codes and proper handwashing.
• Prepare items per standard recipes for consistency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
