Job description

GUI is an American-Korean Steakhouse (not a K-BBQ) by Sungchul Shim and the team behind Michelin-starred Kochi and Mari. The menu is informed by Chef Shim's Korean heritage, and flavors are influenced by the diverse cultures of NYC. Striving to cater to guests from our home city to all over the world.

Hwaro is a chef’s table dining concept located inside the soon-to-open GUI Steakhouse. Hwaro will offer a fine-dining, counter-side open kitchen tasting menu highlighting exquisite and upscale ingredients throughout the meal.

We are currently looking for Line Cooks to join our team to start in January 2025!

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to learn, understand, and execute menus
  • Follow recipes and guidelines set by the management team
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure and respect
  • Open and close the line
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all regulations of New York City’s health and safety protocols
  • Ability to explain or answer all food preparation related questions
  • Assist team members when needed, work well in a group-oriented environment

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of culinary experience in a restaurant
  • A strong sense of urgency and strong communication skills
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to work in an open kitchen
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and food preparation
  • Knowledge of and interest in Asian cuisine is a plus
  • Able to take constructive criticism, learn quickly, and constantly improve
  • Must be meticulously clean and aware of all food safety standards
