Job Brief:

What does a Line Cook do?

A Line Cook, or Prep Cook, plates dishes and completes basic food prep tasks for a restaurant. Their main duties include preparing and cooking food at a specific station, cleaning up prep areas, and ensuring the kitchen is stocked.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assisting with stocking and setting up the kitchen stations.
2. Preparing food, including cleaning and cutting ingredients, and cooking main dishes, desserts, appetizers, and snacks.
3. Plating prepared foods based on senior chef’s guidance.
4. Working with servers to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
5. Washing and cleaning the kitchen and cooking utensils, and storing equipment at the end of shifts.
6. Ensuring kitchen operations and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED required; culinary school preferred.
2. At least one year of cooking experience.
3. Excellent kitchen management knowledge and ability to work as part of a team.
4. Strong organizational and active listening skills.
5. Ability to work on your feet most of the day and lift up to 30 pounds.
6. Exceptional time management skills.
