Job summary

The Benton County Sheriff's Office seeks a Limited Duty Jail Deputy to maintain order, discipline, and security in the County Jail, assisting in processing inmates and maintaining custody information. This on-call role may involve varying shifts, with training provided and a focus on public safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Valid State issued Driver's License with good driving record.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications within 3 months of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety of adults in custody, staff and the public; oversee security of the facility.
  • Assist with intake, bookings and releases including searches, data collection, and verification.
  • Document occurrences, custody logs and officer reports for incidents and rule violations.
  • Provide courteous public relations by answering inquiries and coordinating visits with professionals and family members.
  • Distribute medicines and follow medical orders as directed by facility medical staff.
  • Assist with educational or rehabilitative programs and counseling for adults in custody.

Job Summary

The Limited Duty Jail Deputy maintains the order, discipline and security of the County Jail and assists in the processing of persons into and releases persons from the jail within established guidelines. Deputies are responsible for documenting daily events and activities and maintaining current and accurate custody information as well as maintaining relations and addressing needs of attorneys, the court and the general public.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • This is an on-call position not to exceed 1040 hours worked in a fiscal year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety of Adults in Custody, Staff and General Public. Security of the Facility
  • Monitoring, inspecting, searching, counseling and providing direct services to the population of adults in custody and control room operations.
Intake and Release of Persons
  • Assist with bookings and releases of adults in custody including, clothed and unclothed searches, data collection, verifying and entry; screening for medical and or mental health concerns; inventory and securing of property and funds belonging to adults in custody.
Documentation of Occurrences and Events
  • Maintaining accurate and current custody documents, computerized activity logs, visitation log, receipts, distribution of facility reports, and completing officer reports related to routine and emergency incidents, rule violations, possible criminal activities, and use of force incidents.
Public Relations
  • Answering phones, scheduling visits with social and professional visitors, maintaining positive working relations with other criminal justice professionals and addressing concerns and questions from adults in custody's family and friends.
Medical Distribution
  • Setting up and administering medicines and medical orders as ordered or directed by Facility Medical Staff.
Rehabilitative Programming
  • Assist with educational or rehabilitative programming to the population of adults in custody.
  • Counseling and referral of adults in custody.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 18 years of age at time of hire
  • Valid State issued Driver's License with good driving record.
Special Requirements
  • Successfully pass a background investigation, psychological exam, and medical evaluation before being hired.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications within 3 months of hiring
  • Ability to work any shift
  • Must successfully pass the written POST (Police Officer Selection Test) by a minimum of 70% overall. Test is no cost to you and consists of Math, Reading, Grammar and Writing.

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, running, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Requires frequently lifting and carrying varying from light to heavy. Work hours and days off vary to include day shift, swing shift and graveyard. Nature of position involves exposure to health and safety risks on a continuous basis. Both, physical injury and exposure to contagious diseases exist.
