Job summary

Blue Signal Search is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to lead efforts on an established portfolio of commercial lighting products in Florida. You will drive improvements, optimize cost and manufacturability, and mentor junior engineers in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

You will influence product strategy across engineering, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring reliable, high-performance lighting solutions with robust documentation and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of mechanical or product engineering experience in commercial lighting.
  • Strong understanding of LED fixture construction, thermal management, enclosure design, and lighting performance requirements.
  • Experience supporting released products through engineering improvements, not just new development.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed mechanical design.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Experience designing sheet metal, extrusions, castings, plastics, welded assemblies.
  • Familiarity with lighting control integration and associated technologies.
  • Understanding of compliance, testing, and certification requirements.
  • Excellent technical communication across cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership potential to mentor others and grow into larger roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts supporting an established portfolio of commercial lighting products.
  • Drive product improvements, cost optimization, and manufacturability enhancements.
  • Evaluate designs to improve reliability, performance, serviceability, and production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with new product development teams to ensure smooth transfer to manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specs.
  • Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to improve methods and consistency.
  • Provide technical guidance to customer support, sales, purchasing, and operations.
  • Support integration of wired and wireless lighting control technologies.
  • Assist with validation, certification testing, prototyping, and engineering change management.
  • Research emerging technologies and manufacturing methods for future products.
  • Participate in supplier collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Support integration of commercial lighting control technologies, including wired and wireless systems, into existing product platforms.
  • Assist with product validation, compliance activities, prototype development, certification testing, and engineering change management.
  • Research emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods that enhance future product offerings.
  • Participate in supplier collaboration, cross functional engineering reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skill Set
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Approximately eight or more years of mechanical or product engineering experience within the commercial lighting industry.
  • Strong understanding of LED fixture construction, thermal management, enclosure design, and commercial lighting performance requirements.
  • Experience supporting released products through engineering improvements rather than exclusively new product development.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for three-dimensional modeling and detailed mechanical design.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
  • Experience designing components utilizing sheet metal, extrusions, castings, plastics, welded assemblies, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with commercial lighting control integration and common wired or wireless control technologies.
  • Understanding of product compliance, testing, certification requirements, and engineering documentation best practices.
  • Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customer-facing teams.
  • Leadership potential with the desire to mentor others and grow into expanded engineering responsibilities over time is highly valued.
