Job summary

Target Design is seeking a Lighting Designer to craft and develop lighting products for Target's Owned Brands. You will translate brand direction, guest insights and trends into compelling, commercially viable lighting solutions.

The role requires strong knowledge of 3D form, materials, construction and manufacturing, with prior lighting experience preferred. You will own projects from research through production and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or related field.
• 3+ years of professional product/industrial design experience.
• Portfolio showing design thinking and progression from concept to production.
• Experience designing for scaled/mass production with understanding of cost vs. quality.

Responsibilities

• Research market needs, trends, materials, finishes and manufacturing techniques to identify new opportunities.
• Develop original lighting concepts via sketching, 2D/3D visualization, CAD modeling and prototyping.
• Design across lighting forms (lamps, pendants, chandeliers, sconces) and ensure design intent.
• Drive products from concept through production, balancing aesthetics, cost and manufacturability.
• Create CAD models, drawings, renderings, specifications and presentations for teams and external partners.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Sourcing and manufacturing to ensure feasible, safe, high-volume production.
• Evaluate prototypes and provide clear direction to improve aesthetics, function and quality.
• Develop knowledge of lighting components and construction (LEDs, diffusers, sockets, drivers).
• Work with Merchandising to support assortment strategies and brand positioning.
