Job summary

SmithGroup Detroit Office is seeking a Lighting Design Intern to collaborate on integrated architecture and engineering teams, producing electrical design drawings and design solutions. You will visit job sites and engage in design meetings while receiving mentorship from senior lighting professionals.

The position emphasizes exposure to Revit, AutoCAD, 3ds Max, AGI32 and Microsoft Office, with a hybrid work arrangement and a competitive summer schedule from May to August.

Qualifications

• Completed at least sophomore year or have graduate standing in an accredited electrical engineering, architectural engineering or lighting design program by internship start date.
• Relevant coursework in lighting design and an interest in the building industry lighting applications.
• Experience with design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, 3ds Max, AGI32 and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

Working with us, you will:

• Work on integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
• Produce electrical design drawings using the latest design software.
• Compile data and prepare design solutions.
• Prepare calculations utilizing AG132 software.
• Participate in design meetings.
• Receive mentorship from experienced lighting design professionals.
• Visit a construction site(s) and/or completed project sites.

An ideal candidate has:

• Completed at least their sophomore year or have graduate standing in an accredited electrical engineering, architectural engineering or lighting design program by the time of the internship.
• Relevant course work in lighting design along with an interest in lighting within the building industry.
• Some experience with current design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, 3ds Max, AGI32 and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $23.00 to $24.00per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week. Our 12-week summer internships are held between May-August.
