Job summary

SmithGroup is a multidisciplinary design firm seeking an electrical engineer to lead analysis, design, and documentation of building electrical systems on healthcare, research, and higher-education projects. The role involves independent delivery on small to medium projects, coordination of documents, and mentoring junior staff.

Ideal candidates have a BE or AE degree with 5+ years of experience, Revit/AutoCAD proficiency, and may hold LEED AP or EIT credentials; PE license in progress is a

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience in healthcare, research labs, higher ed, or critical buildings.
  • LEED AP preferred; Engineering-in-Training certification preferred; PE license in progress.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of electrical systems (power, lighting, fire alarm, security, AV, telecom).
  • Independently provide full electrical engineering services on small to medium projects.
  • Revise, review and coordinate construction documents.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Develop solutions for complex power distribution and lighting within integrated teams.
  • Contribute to sustainable design initiatives using software for loads, short circuit and lighting calculations.

Working with us, you will:
  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm, security, audio/visual and telecommunications systems.
  • Independently provide the full range of electrical engineering services on small to medium-sized projects.
  • Revise, review, and coordinate construction documents.
  • Mentor and train junior level staff.
  • Develop solutions to challenging electrical power distribution and lighting systems with integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform electrical loads, short circuit analysis, generator loads and lighting calculations.
An ideal candidate has:
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as an electrical engineer designing electrical power distribution and lighting systems for new and renovated healthcare, research lab, higher ed, and other critical building types.
  • LEED AP and Engineering-in-Training certification preferred, and in progress of obtaining PE license.
  • Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD and Microsoft Office required.
