This position provides specialization in stage lighting, technical production, and stage operations for assigned department performances and tours. The Lighting and Technology Manager is involved with rehearsals, performances and special presentations across campus and in offsite venues both in the United States and around the world. In addition, this employee assists with student learning by mentoring stage crew activity and ensuring efficient backstage operations.What you’ll do in this position:Lighting & Technical OperationsDesign stage lighting for assigned Department of Dance performancesProgram cues and operate lighting systemsCoordinate lighting, audio, and video needs with the CFAC production teamAssist with load-in, load-out, and operation of stage equipment for Department of Dance performances in campus venuesSupport audio, video, and stage operations as needed throughout the rehearsal and run of each production and eventMentor student employees in basic stage technical systems, setup, and operationProduction DevelopmentWork collaboratively with production personnel to bring to life the artistic vision of directors and choreographersParticipate in production meetings communicating ideas and providing solutionsCollaborate with the production team through the development process to solve problems, improve products, and facilitate changesAdvise the creative team and production management to maximize available resourcesUpdate and maintain archival notes, photos, and designs for all productionsStage OperationsServe as Stage Manager for select campus and touring productions, providing leadership during rehearsals and performancesProactively address technical or operational issues and report concerns to the production team.Coordinate backstage crew assignments and help crew members understand their responsibilities.Monitor backstage and performance-area safetyTouring & Logistics ManagementSupport touring productions in leadership roles including Stage Manager, Lighting Supervisor, and/or Technical Director as assignedManage department tour inventory, troubleshoot equipment, and maintain tour ready systemsAssist with preparation and management of international touring documentation, including customs documents and carnetsAssist with the organization, tracking, and transport of touring equipment, including development of packing lists and labeling systemsTrain and supervise student stage managers and stage crews in touring expectations, equipment setup, and operationsWhat qualifies you for this role:RequiredA firm commitment to the mission of BYU.3 - 5 years stage and theatre production experienceFamiliarity with theatrical lighting, sound, video, scenic, props, costumes, and backstage operationsAbility to design and implement artistic lighting designsFamiliarity with ETC Eos lighting consolesKnowledge of PC and/or MAC computer operating systems and softwareProfessional and collaborative approach to communicating with directors, guest artists, staff, customers and external partners.Ability to take on tasks without direct supervision and to delegate tasks for completion of projectsProven fiscal responsibility, with the ability to manage work and resources within established budgetary parameters.Strong planning and organizational skills, with a track record of taking initiative and resolving issues proactively.Ability to work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent distractions.Ability to lift up to 50lbs; with frequent standing, bending. and stoopingAbility to drive university vehicles (box truck, cargo vans, etc.)Valid Utah driver’s license or other state equivalentPreferred:Bachelors Degree and 3+ years stage and theatre production experience with an emphasis in stage lighting and/or another area of specialization (sound, video, stage management, etc.)Experience with ETC Eos lighting systems and networksExperience with video projectors and projection systemsExperience with sound systems and equipmentExperience with AutoCAD or VectorworksExperience with QLab programming and operationWhat we offer in return:This position comes with fantastic benefits , including:401k.
