Job summary

Total Sand Services, LLC (TSS) in Midland, TX is seeking a Light Duty Mechanic to maintain, inspect, and repair a fleet of light-duty vehicles used by Field Operators, the Safety team, and other personnel. You will ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant for daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on light duty vehicles, preferably Ford vehicles.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic set of mechanic tools suitable for light duty vehicle repair.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and repair for light duty gasoline/diesel engines.
  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance practices and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license meeting the Company’s insurance requirements.
  • Pass pre-employment screening.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review DVIR for light duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair light duty vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake service, tires, and batteries.
  • Repair suspension, steering, electrical, and basic HVAC components.
  • Coordinate repairs based on inspection reports and driver feedback.
  • Maintain maintenance records and service reports.
  • Ensure vehicles meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the service truck and shop area.
  • Complete paperwork including work orders, parts requests, timecards, logs, and inspections.
  • Work safely by following company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with Field Operators, Mechanics, and Safety team regarding vehicle status.
  • Perform other tasks as business needs require.

The Light Duty Mechanic will maintain, inspect, and repair a fleet of light duty vehicles used by Field Operators, Mechanics, the Safety team, and other Company personnel, under general supervision. This role focuses on ensuring all light duty vehicles are safe, reliable, compliant, and available for daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and review Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) for light duty vehicles, including pickups, SUVs, and service vehicles.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair light duty vehicles, including Ford vehicles and other fleet units.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake service, tire replacement/repair, batteries, belts, and hoses.
  • Repair and replace components including suspension, steering, electrical, and basic HVAC systems as needed.
  • Coordinate repairs based on inspection reports and driver feedback to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare service reports.
  • Ensure vehicles meet Company safety standards and applicable DOT or regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and safe operation of the Company’s service truck and shop area.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including work orders, parts requests, timecards, logs, and inspection documentation.
  • Work safely at all times by following Company, Customer, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all light duty vehicles are maintained in a safe, reliable operating condition.
  • Communicate effectively with Field Operators, Mechanics, and the Safety team regarding vehicle status and repairs.
  • Perform any other tasks as business needs require.

  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance practices and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license that meets the Company’s insurance requirements.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up 50 lbs and occasionally more with assistance of medical devices.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods during the workday.
  • Able to work underneath, around, and inside heavy equipment in small spaces.
  • Able to use hands and fingers for gripping, handling tools, operating diagnostic equipment, and performing precise mechanical repairs.
  • Able to frequently reach above shoulder level and below the waist
  • Able to safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, jacks, hoists, and other shop equipment.
  • Able to climb ladders and mount/dismount heavy equipment safety.
  • Able to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, dust, grease, noise, vibration, and exposure to chemicals or fumes.
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and respirators when required.
  • Able to visually inspect equipment, read gauges and technical manuals, and distinguish colors related to wiring and diagnostics.
  • Dedication and commitment to teamwork and common goals.
  • Ability to follow proper protocol for incident reporting and emergency situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing needs of clients and industry.
