Job summary

Silgan Closures is seeking a dependable forklift operator for our Evansville, IN facility. You will drive and operate a lift truck, move tin plate skids, unload trucks, and keep areas clean and safe.

A valid driver’s license, forklift certification, and ability to lift up to 50 lb are required. Starting pay is $20.42 per hour with shift differentials for 2nd and 3rd shifts, plus comprehensive benefits, retirement options, and training programs.

Qualifications

• Forklift operation is required and must be maintained.
• Valid driver’s license is required to operate near public roads and facilities.
• Forklift certification must be obtained and maintained.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis.
• Ability to move carts and operate in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate lift truck and maintain a valid license and certification.
• Deliver material and position skids of tin plate onto conveyors or equipment.
• Dump scrap tubs as needed.
• Unload trucks of material such as drums and coils.
• Arrange metal in warehouse, storage, and production areas.
• Perform daily lift truck maintenance inspections.
• Keep work area neat and clean and comply with safety standards.
• Relieve as required and perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
• Handle hazardous waste per procedures in Hazardous Waste Management Bulletins.

What You'll Do

• Drive and operate lift truck (maintain valid driver's license and pass required lift truck operator testing)


• Deliver specified material and position skids of tin plate onto conveyors beside machines or directly onto equipment such as waxer, scrolls, etc.


• Dump scrap tubs.


• Unload trucks of material such as drums, coils, etc. as needed


• Arrange metal in warehouse, storage areas and production areas as needed


• Perform daily maintenance inspection of lift truck


• Keep assigned work area neat and clean


• Relieve as required


• Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor


• Handle hazardous waste according to proper procedures as outlined in the Hazardous Waste Management Bulletins including identification, collection, segregation, handling and storage of waste.

What We Need

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required


• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license


• Must be able to obtain and maintain fork truck certification


• Must be able to constantly lift up to 20 pounds and regularly lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted


• Must be able to push and pull carts and demonstrate rapid mental and muscular coordination
