Job summary

Mountain Capital Partners' Willamette Pass Ski Resort is seeking a Lift Operator in Charge for the seasonal season. You will maintain the lift area and guest safety with your team at the assigned lift.

You will train operators, perform daily lift checks, log incidents, and coordinate loading ramps, while adhering to OSHA and ANSI safety standards in all weather. Applicants must be 18+, have a HS diploma or GED, and at least one year of lift operations experience, with availability for at least 3

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding guest service by assisting guests on and off chairlifts safely and professionally.
  • Check guests boarding the lift for a valid ticket or pass.
  • Ensure guests wear proper gear and that backpacks are removed before boarding.
  • Monitor riders’ safety by slowing lifts as needed.
  • Lead and train operators at their lift stations.

Job Location: Willamette Pass - Crescent Lake Jct, OR 97733, Position Type: Seasonal, The Lift Operator in Charge helps provide the optimal experience to our guests during their visit by maintaining the area with their team around an assigned lift to ensure a safe and fun environment. Willamette Pass Ski Resort company purpose is to Give People the Freedom to Ski while providing high-quality service to our guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide outstanding guest service by assisting and directing guests on and off chairlifts in a safe, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Check all guests boarding the lift for a valid ticket or pass using a scanner.
  • Ensure all lift riders have appropriate gear (resort-authorized equipment with metal edges only) and that backpacks are removed before boarding the chairlift.
  • Monitor and assess guests’ needs by slowing chairlifts down for their safety.
  • Provide leadership and monitor other operators assigned to their lifts.
  • Effectively train operators at their lift stations while also leading by example.
  • Ensure other lift operators at their stations are taking timely breaks and lunches. Schedule breaks and rotate crew members through each station as necessary.
  • Operate ski lifts as assigned, including bumping, scanning, and buttons.
  • Perform daily lift checks, and complete lift logs and accident and incident reports when needed.
  • Coordinate and aid in the setup and maintenance of mazes, ramps, fencing, signage, and loading and unloading areas at their assigned lift station.
  • Maintain OSHA and ANSI requirements for the safety and operations of lifts and lift ramps.
  • Shovel snow, chip ice, sweep chairs, and maintain loading and unloading ramps safely and efficiently.
  • Effectively communicate through authorized channels using resort protocol, including prompt emergency notification.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • At least one year of lift operations experience is required.
  • Must be available to work at least 3 days per week.
  • Knowledge season pass scanning equipment.
  • Knowledge of lift controls and operations for aerial and surface lifts.
  • Knowledge of lift and ski area safety processes and procedures.
  • Skill in determining possible safety hazards.
  • Completion of the WPR Qualified Climber program prior to first day.
  • Skill in basic machinery.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform timely and accurate completion of lift logs and incident reports.
  • Ability to regularly work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to frequently walk on slippery, icy, and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to shovel and transport snow (up to 70 lbs.) for long periods in adverse outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push or pull 50 lbs. individually or with assistance.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard safely to and from assigned workstations using company-designated routes. Note: In some instances, employees without fundamental ski or snowboarding ability may be assigned workstations where such abilities are not required.
  • Ability to use hand tools (rakes and shovels) to perform regular maintenance on snow loading/unloading surfaces according to specified standards.
