General Duties

Assisting in the management of departmental staff in a safe and efficient manner while promoting positive guest service. Winter operations are comprised of 29 job sites and staffing up to 90-100 employees. Most of the chair lifts operate daily during the winter with three operating during night skiing. Summer operations consist of running three lifts, of which two load bikes. The lift department is responsible for the operation of the Alpine Slide as well as the Spider Monkey Mountain. Summer operations run seven days/week starting mid-June through Labor Day. After Labor Day, operations are limited to Saturday and Sunday through September. Additional evening operations for weddings.

Job Specifications

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Three years’ supervisory experience is preferred.
• Skiing/Snowboarding at least at an intermediate level isrequired for this position.
• Thorough knowledge and ability to operate all functions of chair lifts independently is preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of ANSI code is preferred.
• Proficient computer in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Must possess a positive, solution-oriented attitude and experience with conflict resolution.
• Must be a self-starter and able to work independently with little supervision.
• Must possess good organizational skills; able to prioritize tasks and work with details.
• Must possess strong problem-solving abilities, being confident in ability to research problems and apply appropriate solutions.
• Must have strong multi-tasking skills, with the ability to be interrupted without losing accuracy in work.
• Must possess the ability to function effectively during times of high stress and high business demands, while dealing courteously and effectively with customers and staff.

• Skill in operating office equipment including copy machines, printers, and two-way radios.

• Weekend, Holiday and some evening work required.
• Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy.
• Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.

Specific Duties: Winter and Summer

• Assists in supervising all aspects of chair lift operations, Alpine Slide and Spider Monkey Mountain.
• Assists and oversees staff scheduling congruent to the ergonomics of each job site for running an economically efficient department. Including adjusting schedule to accommodate for flexing down or covering for no-shows or injuries.
• Assists with completion of staff evaluations and disciplinary actions on a consistent manner and timely basis.
• Compliant with all governing agency standards, including NSAA, ANSI, B-77 and USFS.
• Assists in preparation of lift department budgets for winter and summer operations and ensures that the department operates within budget guidelines.
• Assists in pre-season and on-going training.
• Assists in giving lunch breaks/breaks where needed daily, ski breaks when time permits.
• Assists with the implementing, training and tracking of the department’s safety program as it relates to guests and employees.
• Works closely and communicates effectively with Manager and Director of Mountain Operations. Report on any unsafe working conditions to the Manager and engages follow-up to prevent repeated accidents or unsafe circumstances.
• Gains thorough understanding of all aspects of Whitefish Mountain Resort to function as information source for guests and employees.
• Meets company’s requirements for appearance, attendance, and punctuality.
• Performs other duties as assigned; ready and able to cover shifts at lifts when needed.
• Assists Supervisors with team meetings on a regular basis to promote successful communication.

Safety & Wellness

All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity.

• Able to be seated at a desk and computer workstation for extended periods of time up to 2 to 3 hours daily.
• Winter: able to work while standing for extended periods of time up to 2 to 3 hours daily.
• Summer: able to work while standing up to periods of 8 hours daily.
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds repetitively.
• Able to engage in repetitive body motion involving upper body torque during the loading of guests in chairs.
• Winter – loading guests on fixed and detachable lifts.
• Summer – loading and unloading guests, bikes, and sleds on fixed and detachable lifts.
• Job requires working outdoors in rain, snow, smoke and everything in between sometimes in extremes such as 20 below in winter mid 90’s in the summer.
• Job may require working any of the department’s positions during times of heavy need or multiple sickness/injuries.
• Non-smoking environment.
