Job summary

Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT seeks Lifesaving and Care Specialists to care for dogs, support adoptions, and act as ambassadors for the sanctuary’s lifesaving mission. The role is part-time, about 20 hours per week, with varying shifts including weekends and holidays.

Ideal candidates have dog-handling experience, customer-service mindset, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while supporting volunteers and visitors. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

• Experience working with dogs in a professional setting or significant volunteer experience with dogs is required (minimum 1 year preferred).
• Ability to handle dogs with health/behavior considerations and to speak to medical/behavioral traits.

Responsibilities

• Assist with adoption processes and update animal photos/bios; provide excellent visitor service.
• Greet visitors, conduct tours, and share information about the dogs and the sanctuary.
• Provide basic care (feeding, watering, transport to appointments, grooming) and monitor animal wellbeing.
• Maintain safety and training for volunteers; orient and supervise groups and individuals.
• Document veterinary records and assist with health-related activities as needed.
• Support travel to partner shelters for collaborative lifesaving efforts.
• Perform duties with professionalism and adhere to Best Friends policies.
