Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician for a full-time role in Indianapolis. The technician responds to emergency calls and interhospital transports, delivering immediate life-saving care and safe patient transport.

The position requires Indiana EMT certification (or national cert with Indiana eligibility within 30 days) and BLS, with the possibility of other advanced life support certifications depending on the unit. A valid Indiana driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.
• Requires Indiana State driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Responds in an emergency medical vehicle to the scene of emergencies, nonemergencies, and interhospital transports.
• Provides immediate basic life support care at the scene and enroute to the hospital.
• Performs CPR, AED, and bone splinting as needed.
• Performs specialized life-sustaining procedures in a hospital-based advanced care ambulance service.
• Provides immediate emergency care and transport of critically ill or injured patients.

Job description

Full Time/Three 12 hour shifts (set schedule), Indianapolis, IN

Responds in an emergency medical vehicle to the scene of reported emergencies, nonemergency's and interhospital transports. Provides efficient and immediate basic life support care to the patient at the scene and enroute to and in the hospital. Performs non-invasive procedures and basic life support functions such as, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), and bone splinting. Performs specialized life sustaining procedures in a hospital-based advanced care ambulance service. Responsible for providing immediate emergency care and transport of the critically ill or injured.

A valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record report may be required for this role. Consideration of employment for this role may be contingent upon the results of the Motor Vehicle Record report.

• Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician issued by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security required, or must be nationally certified and able to obtain the Indiana EMT Certification within 30 days of start of employment.
• Basic Life Support certification through the America Heart Association required.
• Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires Indiana State drivers' license.
