Description

Calling all prospects Ages 15 years old and over! Come work for Concord's Parks and Recreation Department this summer! Lifeguards/WSI's work mid-June to late August, up to 40 hours a week. The city operates six swimming pools around the city and we need to hire almost 40 lifeguards to open all six pools.

Applicants must have a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR certifications to apply for employment.

Applicants who are hired and pass their certification classes, while working 4 or more days a week until the end of the season will be reimbursed the cost of the class.

Includes Holiday Pay Premium when working on Holidays! Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are ongoing and pre-registration is required.

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary/Seasonal 2025

Hourly Wage: $16.50 - $18.55 per hour

Job Summary

Applicants must be dependable, enjoy working with youth and families, and have good communication and problem-solving skills.

Examples of Duties

  1. Responsible for the supervision, safety, and accident prevention of all patrons.
  2. Responsible for ensuring that maintenance of the pool area and facilities are cleaned daily according to established maintenance procedures.
  3. Required to adhere to all guidelines outlined in the Pool Staff Handbook and wear approved city uniforms while on duty.
  4. Works cooperatively with other staff and outside groups that use the pool for regularly scheduled activities or special events.
  5. Completes all required paperwork in a timely manner such as time sheets, attendance reports, and maintenance reports.
  6. Administers First Aid and CPR when necessary.
  7. Follows established procedures regarding accidents, discipline, or mechanical problems. Notifies the Parks & Recreation Assistant Director and/or Pool Supervisor immediately in the event of an unusual situation or hazardous condition.
  8. Follows and enforces department rules and regulations.
  9. Directs all suggestions from the public to their Supervisor. Strives to establish positive public relations for the Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Concord.
  10. May be required to lift items that weigh more than 50 lbs. occasionally.
  11. WSI's are responsible for teaching swim lessons for a variety of levels and for completing the necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  12. WSI's assist in the planning of the Citywide Swim Meet and Lifeguard Competitions.
  13. Lifeguards are responsible for assisting with the teaching of swim lessons.

Work Hours

Must attend in-service training and staff meetings. Employees must be available to work on weekends between the hours of 10 am and 4:30 p.m. and weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
