Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Lifeguard to keep swimmers safe and provide friendly service during mid-day hours. This on-site role runs Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm and offers training, certification, and a supportive team.

No prior lifeguarding experience is required; free training is provided. Starting pay is $18.00 per hour with opportunities to grow as you gain skills and leadership abilities within a welcoming community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous lifeguarding experience preferred.
• Customer service experience desirable.
• Willingness to complete lifeguard and CPR training (provided).

• Physical ability to perform water rescues

Child Abuse Prevention

- Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:

• Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
• Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
• Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
• Completing all child abuse prevention training as required

Qualifications

Required Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

• Previous lifeguarding experience preferred.
• Experience in a customer service role or similar environment.

Required Skills And Abilities:

• Strong swimming skills and ability to perform water rescues.
• Knowledge of CPR, First Aid, and AED usage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
• Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
