Job summary

The City of Deer Park is seeking a lifeguard to ensure guest, staff, and facility safety at the aquatic center. Responsibilities include enforcing rules, monitoring pool areas, and communicating effectively with guests and team members.

Must be at least 16 years old, be able to swim, and be willing to obtain required certifications (CPR, First Aid, AED) within one year; in-service trainings are required throughout the summer and a pre-season screening will be conducted.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to obtain required lifeguard certifications within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices.
  • Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid, CPR, and/or AED.
  • Maintain order in swimming areas by enforcing rules.
  • Inspects facilities for cleanliness.
  • Maintain lifeguarding skills to a test-ready level.
  • Attend in-service training through the summer.
  • Supervise patrons on the pool deck, lobby and in the pool.
  • Punctuality and professional conduct.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Maintain fitness level and perform related duties.
  • If asked to be a swim lesson instructor; abide by the responsibilities of the swim lesson instructor job description.

Education

Must be at least 16 years of age
Certification readiness (CPR/First Aid/AED)
Effective verbal and written communication skills
