Lake Havasu City is seeking a Lifeguard Trainee to join the P&R/Aquatics team. This role provides on-the-job training in rescue techniques, CPR, first aid, and water safety, with certification provided during the program.

Ideal candidates are motivated, reliable, team-minded, and strong swimmers, at least 16 years old. The position is part-time, non-exempt, with certification requirements and a drug-free workplace policy.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Completion of Lifeguard Certification class with required certifications.
• First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED certifications required.
• Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Whether it’s the pool at the Aquatic Center or the sparkling waters of Lake Havasu, we’re looking for future lifeguards to help keep our community safe and cool. No certification? No sweat. We’ll train you.

Key Responsibilities:

• Train under certified lifeguards on rescue techniques
• Learn CPR, first aid, and water safety skills
• Assist in keeping Lake Havasu’s pools safe and welcoming
• Observe & support safety duties during lifeguard shifts

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of Lifeguard Certification Class where the following certifications will be obtained:

• Lifeguard Certification is issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
• First Aid Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
• Automated External Defibrillator Certification issued by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
• Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.

Special Note

Jump into the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface, and swim 150 yards. - After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes by treading. - After maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. - While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control. - You may use the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. - Swim goggles are allowed. Participants must retrieve a ten (10) pound object by surface diving to a depth of seven (7) to ten (10) feet.

Failure to successfully complete the certification class and obtain the required certifications above within fourteen (14) calendar days will result in termination of employment.

Selected candidates will receive separate notification via email.

Upon conclusion of interviews, selected candidates (no more than ten (10)) will be required to participate in the following processes on the date/time scheduled; no makeup dates will be allowed.

Online Onboarding Process: To be completed by Friday, October 09, 2026, by 5:00 PM. Lifeguard Certification Class: Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2026, from 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
