Job summary

British Swim School of Northern Chicagoland is hiring a Swim Instructor to teach lessons to children and adults, starting at 3 months old, using our fun, progressive methods. You will receive extensive training to build confidence and work with swimmers of varying abilities.

As a Deck Ambassador and Lifeguard when not instructing, you’ll support smooth lesson operations and safety from the pool deck. The Chicago locations require evenings and weekend shifts and offer meaningful community impact.

Qualifications

• Must have active Lifeguard Certification.
• Completed High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must maintain existing certifications throughout the length of employment.
• Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing.

Responsibilities

• Work on-site at one of our two pool locations for two to three sessions weekly (8–12 hours weekly).
• Learn and follow British Swim School's curriculum to ensure safe and competent lessons and environment.
• Comfortable teaching all student ages, from infant through adult.
• Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 4 consecutive hours.
• Be prepared for shifts and support the team through regular engagement with team communications.

The Position

A Swim Instructor at British Swim School teaches swim lessons to children and adults, starting at 3 months old using our fun, gentle and progressive methods. You will receive extensive training to build your confidence and ability to work with a variety of swimmers and abilities. Having fun and interacting with our swimmers is an important part of the role! A strong focus is placed on providing survival swim techniques living out the British Swim School mission and making a big impact on decreasing drowning. When you are not instructing, you will interact with students and families as a Deck Ambassador and Lifeguard - ensuring smooth operations of lessons and the safety of students from the pool deck.

Your Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

• Must have active Lifeguard Certification.


• Available at least 3 evenings from Monday through Thursday (4pm - 8pm) and Saturdays from 8am to noon.


• Availability and reliable transportation to work at either Northside Chicago locations. (See location details below.)


• Completed High school diploma or equivalent.


• Enthusiastic personality.


• Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing.


• Must maintain existing certifications throughout the length of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children.

Locations:

British Swim School of Northern Chicagoland operates from two locations; one on the Northwest side of Chicago (60630) and one in Rosemont (60018). This job is for these, and no other, British Swim School locations. Both locations require transfers from train lines to bus if commuting by public transportation.

Compensation: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour

The job comes with specialized training in our advanced and unique British Swim School approach.
