Position Summary
To organize and supervise camp aquatic activities in a manner consistent with State of Michigan Licensing Rules, GSUSA Guidelines, and GSSEM Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Key Responsibilities
- Incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
- Become familiar with age groups served and organize activities at the pool for each age level.
- Establish and enforce pool procedures according to all applicable guidelines.
- Tie in the curriculum of activities to enable participants to earn age-appropriate Girl Scout recognitions, when applicable.
- Integrate aquatic activities or programs for special morning and evening events.
- Manage aquatic equipment by ensuring proper use, cleanliness, and storage.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free pool environment, ensuring sanitation of bathrooms and participation areas.
- Keep accurate records as required by the American Red Cross and State of Michigan, including staff training and camper instruction records.
- Inspect safety equipment daily and coordinate repairs or replacements with the Assistant Camp Director.
- Maintain a fully stocked first aid kit at all times.
- Lead or assist with other programming as needed.
- Reside in a lodge and support cabin groups as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old with current certification as a Lifeguard from a recognized organization and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or willing to obtain certification during training.
- Ability to respond immediately and calmly in emergencies, accepting guidance and direction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to evaluate swimming skills and supervise campers.
- Good judgment to anticipate and prevent accidents.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Experience teaching youth activities.
- Knowledge of safety practices applicable to aquatic environments.
- Effective communication skills with campers and staff; flexibility in programming.
Essential Requirements
- Become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
- Hold Lifeguard Shallow Water, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
- Use of lifesaving and pool maintenance equipment.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit for long periods, and lift at least 50 pounds.
Work Conditions
Activities occur in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Salary: $14.00 per hour
