Position Summary

To organize and supervise camp aquatic activities in a manner consistent with State of Michigan Licensing Rules, GSUSA Guidelines, and GSSEM Safety Activity Checkpoints.

Key Responsibilities

1. Incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
2. Become familiar with age groups served and organize activities at the pool for each age level.
3. Establish and enforce pool procedures according to all applicable guidelines.
4. Tie in the curriculum of activities to enable participants to earn age-appropriate Girl Scout recognitions, when applicable.
5. Integrate aquatic activities or programs for special morning and evening events.
6. Manage aquatic equipment by ensuring proper use, cleanliness, and storage.
7. Maintain a clean and hazard-free pool environment, ensuring sanitation of bathrooms and participation areas.
8. Keep accurate records as required by the American Red Cross and State of Michigan, including staff training and camper instruction records.
9. Inspect safety equipment daily and coordinate repairs or replacements with the Assistant Camp Director.
10. Maintain a fully stocked first aid kit at all times.
11. Lead or assist with other programming as needed.
12. Reside in a lodge and support cabin groups as needed.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be at least 16 years old with current certification as a Lifeguard from a recognized organization and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or willing to obtain certification during training.
2. Ability to respond immediately and calmly in emergencies, accepting guidance and direction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Ability to evaluate swimming skills and supervise campers.
2. Good judgment to anticipate and prevent accidents.
3. Previous management or supervisory experience.
4. Experience teaching youth activities.
5. Knowledge of safety practices applicable to aquatic environments.
6. Effective communication skills with campers and staff; flexibility in programming.

Essential Requirements

1. Become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
2. Hold Lifeguard Shallow Water, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
3. Use of lifesaving and pool maintenance equipment.
4. Physical ability to walk, stand, sit for long periods, and lift at least 50 pounds.

Work Conditions

Activities occur in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Salary: $14.00 per hour
