Position Summary

Multiple temporary hourly-intermittent Bridge Student Assistant positions in the Student Recreation Complex.

Start Date

Positions available on or after May 19, 2025, and ending on or before August 29, 2025. Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

Job Description/Duties
  • First Responder to emergency situations and provide lifesaving, first aid and/or CPR until professional assistance arrives.
  • Execute rescues of persons in distress; recognize and respond effectively in emergencies according to facility emergency plans.
  • Communicate and enforce all Campus Recreation regulations, operations, programs, and pool rules professionally with customers.
  • Perform daily opening and closing procedures, including basic maintenance like removing pool covers, cleaning debris, and storing equipment.
  • Report potentially dangerous elements of the facility and complete all required incident reports.
  • Handle incidents appropriately according to training level.
  • Adhere to safety standards and participate in drills and training.
  • Work as part of a team with other lifeguards during daily hours, drills, events, and enforcement activities.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Provide general information about Campus Recreation programs and activities to customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Effective customer service skills, especially with difficult concerns or complaints.
  • Experience with various rescue techniques and spinal injury management.
  • Professional appearance, positive attitude, high customer service standards.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency, injury, and first aid procedures effectively.
  • Availability for staff training (dates TBD).
  • Previous experience as a paid/senior lifeguard preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • Current certifications: Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction (WSI), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 units; graduate students in at least 4 units.
Salary Range

$16.50 - $17.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
