About Us: The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department manages and maintains more than 225 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces in San Francisco.

Role description: Under general direction, protects the health, safety and welfare of patrons at a municipally operated swimming pool facility. Responsibilities include maintaining discipline in and around the swimming pool; conducting rescue operations; cleaning and disinfecting the pool, decks, showers, locker rooms and aquatic equipment; and performing related duties as required.

Essential Duties

• Patrol and monitor pool activities and facility patrons to prevent accidents.
• Conduct rescue operations; perform lifesaving techniques; assist swimmers in distress.
• Communicate with facility patrons; enforce pool rules and regulations.
• Maintain aquatic facility by inspecting and observing for safety and cleanliness.
• Prepare the facility for various aquatic events.
• Collect revenue and fees for facility use.
• Provide customer service regarding facility operations.
• Prepare incident and accident reports as necessary.

How to qualify

Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two hundred hours of experience as a paid or volunteer lifeguard.

License And Certification

Current possession and maintenance of the following certifications:

• Lifeguarding issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent.
• Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent.
• Title 22 - First Aid for Public Safety Personnel issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent.

Conditions Of Employment

• All employees must keep current certifications throughout employment.
• Failure to maintain valid certifications may result in termination.

Desirable Qualifications

• Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
• Waterfront Certificate issued by Red Cross or equivalent.
