Job summary

Under the supervision of the Swim Director, the Lifeguard is responsible for the safety, cleanliness, and operation of the pool during operating hours. The role safeguards members and participants, enforcing pool rules and maintaining a safe environment.

Essential duties include monitoring the pool, managing chemical levels, communicating YMCA values, and supporting program activities. Flexible scheduling, training opportunities, and career growth are offered by the Y in Central Maryland.

Qualifications

• Must hold current lifeguard certification.
• Must hold CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or O2 within 30 days of hire).
• Must pass YMCA swim test.
• Flexible schedule, days, nights and weekends.
• Complete new associate training before scheduled work.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool during shift and enforce pool rules.
• Maintain pool cleanliness and equipment; report needed repairs.
• Read and adjust chemical levels per guidelines.
• Assist participants, engage swimmers and supervise activities.
• Present a professional image and maintain a safe environment.
• Communicate the YMCA mission to members and guests.
• Attend in-service trainings and team meetings.
