Job summary

Countryside YMCA in Lebanon, OH is seeking responsible lifeguards to join the Aquatics Team on a part-time basis. You will maintain active surveillance of pool areas, enforce safety rules, and respond quickly to emergencies to protect members and guests.

The ideal candidate is at least 16 years old, holds YMCA or American Red Cross lifeguard certification, and current BLS, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications. The role offers flexible scheduling and free YMCA membership.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must hold current YMCA Lifeguard Certification or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Must hold current BLS, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Must pass Lifeguard Skills Test during the interview process.
• Criminal background check required for ages 18+.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Reliable and punctual attendance.
• Basic knowledge of pool chemistry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of assigned pool areas and guard without distractions.
• Identify and respond to unsafe behaviors and emergencies.
• Arrive prepared in proper uniform with rescue equipment.
• Observe zones continuously, guard independently when needed.
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA policies and Safe-in-Six model.
• Complete incident/accident reports as required.
• Conduct safety inspections of aquatic areas and identify hazards.
• Provide supervision during recreational swimming, classes, and lessons.
• Follow opening/closing procedures and secure facilities.
• Attend required staff trainings and meetings.
• Enforce safety rules courteously and professionally.
• Build positive relationships with members and staff.
• Monitor pool chemical levels and equipment; take action as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe aquatic environment.
