Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay in Oakland, CA is seeking energetic lifeguards and swim instructors for part-time roles (6–25 hours/week). No certifications required—we provide training to ensure you meet safety standards and deliver a safe, friendly aquatic environment for members of all ages.

Responsibilities include constant pool surveillance, responding to emergencies, enforcing safety rules, and supporting events. On-the-job training and a Free YMCA membership are offered to help you grow with us.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard CPR, AED & First Aid certifications or equivalent.
• Maintain certification readiness and fitness.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active pool surveillance at all times according to Red Cross standards.
• Respond to emergencies promptly and in line with YMCA policies.
• Maintain positive relationships with members, participants and staff.
• Enforce pool safety rules and lifeguard-to-swimmer ratios.
• Wear proper lifeguard attire and be prepared for rescue functions.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings; support events as needed.
