Job summary

The Downtown Berkeley YMCA is seeking swim instructors to teach water safety and skills to all ages. This part-time role is ideal for students or retirees with a passion for the water and working with kids.

Instructors receive training, work in a dynamic environment, and offer lessons to the community while ensuring safety in the water. Applicants should be at least 16 years old and have basic swimming skills.

Competitive compensation is offered along with free YMCA membership.

Qualifications

• Minimum 16 years of age.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification within 90 days of hire.
• Standard First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to swim in shallow water, equivalent to YMCA Minnow or ARC Level 4.

Responsibilities

Job Description

This is a great part-time job for students, retirees, and everyone in between who likes the water and working with kids. Our swim instructors teach people of all ages (infants through adults) how to be comfortable and safe in the water with the goal to increase water competency in our community. We provide ample in-service training to hone instructors’ swimming knowledge and technical skill as well as developing class organization and management strategies. Applicants need not be highly proficient swimmers themselves as long as they are open to learning on job and can swim the following basic requirements in shallow water.

We are currently looking for swim instructor applicants with ongoing availability for at least one of the following session blocks:

• Mondays/Wednesdays, 4:15-7:00 or 4:15-7:45pm
• Tuesdays/Thursdays, 4:15-7:00 or 4:15-7:45pm
• Saturdays, 10:00am-2:00pm

Compensation:
$20.50-$21.50/hour DOE

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Swim Instructors:

• Minimum of 16 years of age
