Job summary

Ottawa YMCA is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of all pool participants during morning and afternoon shifts. The role includes constant supervision, enforcing pool rules, and maintaining a safe swimming environment.

This part-time position reports to the Aquatics Director and includes responsibilities around equipment, water testing, and responding to emergencies. The role offers a starting hourly rate of $16.00–$17.00 with a free individual YMCA membership and opportunities to

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age.
• Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid preferred.
• Proficient in swimming and safety skills.
• Able to lead with minimal supervision.
• Observant, safety-conscious and able to react calmly in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Practice preventative lifeguarding with constant surveillance of pool area.
• Enforce pool rules and policies to ensure safety.
• Keep pool area clean and orderly and report hazards.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and act as a Primary Responder when needed.
• Maintain all aquatic equipment and test water chemistry as required.
• Provide friendly member assistance and answer questions about YMCA programs.
