Job summary

YMCA Lifeguard roles at Shades Valley - Homewood, AL offer a part-time schedule with an hourly rate of $14.00. You'll supervise swimmers, enforce rules, respond to emergencies, monitor water quality, and provide excellent customer service in a friendly, mission-driven environment.

Qualified candidates will have lifeguard certification (CPR/AED/First Aid), be at least 15 years old, and be able to swim 300 yards and lift 50 pounds. Training and growth opportunities are available within the YMCA.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (including CPR/AED and First Aid), or willing to obtain it before employment.
• Ability to swim 300 yards continuously.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers to ensure a safe aquatic environment.
• Enforce pool rules while creating a welcoming experience for members and guests.
• Respond quickly to emergencies and provide appropriate lifesaving care when needed.
• Monitor and record pool chemical levels to maintain water quality and safety.
• Keep the pool deck and surrounding areas clean and hazard-free.
• Assist members with questions and provide outstanding customer service.
• Open and close the aquatic facility and complete daily operational tasks.
