The Salvation Army is seeking an Aquatic Lifeguard at the KT-Memphis KROC Center in Memphis, TN. This hourly position supports safe swimming, enforces rules, and responds to emergencies under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Lead Lifeguards.

You must be at least 16, able to swim proficiently, tread water with a brick for 5 minutes, and work well with children. Certifications in Red Cross First Aid, CPR Pro, Lifeguard Training or equivalent are required.

Job Details

Job Location: KT-Memphis KROC Center - Memphis, TN 38104, Job Category: Recreation.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that the aquatic operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures.


• Aquatic Lifeguard is an hourly position, which may be designed full-time, part-time, or as needed.


• Under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Lead Lifeguards, the person in this position will observe swimmers, protect life, prevent accidents, enforce regulations, and do related work as required.


• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all instructors, volunteers, and participants.


• Follow and enforce equipment checkout program. Report defects, necessary repairs, etc.


• Conduct routine water chemical checks and cleaning schedules as assigned by the Aquatic Manager or Lead Lifeguard.


• Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

• Must be at least 16 years of age.


• Must have the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance. Must successfully tread water with a brick for 5 minutes.

• Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs.


• Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the center’s swimming pools.


• Must have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and The Salvation Army.


• Work is performed in an environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in temperature, pool chemicals as well as discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU: Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED


• Or


• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities


• Must have prior experience working with children.

Certifications

• Possession of current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), and Lifeguard Training. Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.


• Safe From Harm Certification


• Blood Borne Pathogens Certification
