Department/Location: Aquatic Facility FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports To: Aquatics Coordinator/Teacher Date: December 12, 2023

Summary: This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the prevention of injuries at the aquatic facility, including lifeguarding, water rescue, water tests, and safety procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Observe patrons and practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and regulations.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in swimming and water rescue functions.
3. Identify problems either visually or by auditory means in order to be alert to life-saving needs.
4. Perform water tests and record results as required.
5. Maintain safe procedures and keep the facility clean at all times.
6. Maintain surveillance in assigned areas until relieved or dismissed.
7. Maintain familiarity with emergency action plan/rescue plans and safety equipment.
8. Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to job assignments.
9. Follow all federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
10. Perform other duties as requested.

1. Education and/or Experience: Valid and current Lifeguard Training Certification, Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required. Must pass lifeguard pre-employment skills test.
2. Language Skills: Must have ability to read and comprehend job-specific technical information, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and position-specific manuals. Must have ability to write correspondence and reports. Must have ability to effectively articulate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
3. Mathematical Skills: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to conduct position-related data analysis. Must have ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
4. Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem-solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts and assist in the development of workable solutions.
5. Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job-specific technologies.
6. Customer Service Skills: Must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, administrators, teachers, staff members, and students using tactful yet effective skills. Must collaborate well with others and display a cooperative attitude. Must be service-oriented and actively seek ways to assist others.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds. Travel to home sites, school sites, and other locations is required.
