Job summary

The City of Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation is seeking a lifeguard for its aquatic facilities. Pay is $15.15/hourly with responsibilities including vigilant surveillance, lifesaving, and enforcing pool rules to keep patrons safe.

Must be at least 15 years old and hold American Red Cross lifeguard certification, plus Basic first aid, CPR and AED certification before the season starts.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Must possess valid American Red Cross lifeguard certification (available through LSPR after hire).
• Must possess valid Basic first aid, CPR and AED certification prior to the first day of the season (available through LSPR after hire.)

Responsibilities

• Perform lifeguard duties according to established procedures and practices and in accordance with formal training and certification.
• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately to secure safety of patrons in an emergency.
• Provide emergency care and treatment until arrival of emergency medical services.
• Enforce facility rules and regulations; take appropriate action in the event of patron incidents.
• Monitor weather and water conditions for signs of danger; take steps to preserve safety and wellbeing of patrons.
• Prepare and maintain appropriate reports.
• Assist in planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of aquatics activities.
• Assist in maintenance of aquatics facility.
• Maintain safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and mandatory in-service training sessions.
• Ensure enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Responsible for maintaining a constant vigilance of swimmers, performing actions to save lives, prevent accidents and incidents, initiating and promoting good water safety habits, and assisting in the operation and maintenance of the assigned aquatics facility.

• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
• Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Enforces facility rules and regulations; takes appropriate action in the event of patron incidents.
• Monitor weather conditions and water conditions for signs of danger or hazard; take appropriate steps to preserve safety and well being of patrons and others in area of responsibility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate reports.
• Assist in the planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of aquatics activities.
• Assist in maintenance of aquatics facility.
• Maintains safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and mandatory in-service training sessions as scheduled.
• Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.
