Job summary

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is seeking a seasonal lifeguard to ensure swimmer safety and enforce facility rules at the aquatics center. You will maintain vigilance, respond to emergencies, provide first aid and CPR, and assist in program activities.

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and hold American Red Cross lifeguard certification, plus Basic first aid, CPR and AED before the season starts. Training and availability will be provided by LSPR.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Must possess valid American Red Cross lifeguard certification.
• Must possess valid Basic first aid, CPR and AED certification prior to the first day of the season.

Responsibilities

• Perform lifeguard duties according to established procedures.
• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons and respond to emergencies.
• Provide emergency care and treatment until EMS arrival.
• Enforce facility rules and regulations.
• Monitor weather and water conditions for hazards.
• Prepare reports and assist in aquatic program planning.
• Assist in maintenance of aquatics facility.
• Attend mandatory trainings.
• Ensure safety per LSPR guidelines.

Responsible for maintaining a constant vigilance of swimmers, performing actions to save lives, prevent accidents and incidents, initiating and promoting good water safety habits, and assisting in the operation and maintenance of the assigned aquatics facility.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform the functions of a lifeguard according to established procedures and practices and in accordance with formal training and certification.
• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
• Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Enforces facility rules and regulations; takes appropriate action in the event of patron incidents.
• Monitor weather conditions and water conditions for signs of danger or hazard; take appropriate steps to preserve safety and well being of patrons and others in area of responsibility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate reports.
• Assist in the planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of aquatics activities.
• Assist in maintenance of aquatics facility.
• Maintains safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and mandatory in-service training sessions as scheduled.
• Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.
