Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Lifeguard Instructor to lead safety-focused instruction and supervise participants at our Aquatics program. Under the Aquatics Director, you will deliver ASHI BLS, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Lifeguard training, while maintaining equipment and class records.

You will coach students, assess skills, administer tests, and ensure compliance with YMCA safety policies in a busy aquatics environment. This is a part-time role in Houston.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification as required by YMCA standards.
• Current or must obtain ASHI certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, New Staff Orientation Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Delivers ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Lifeguard training within guidelines.
• Maintains training supplies and communicates needs to Aquatics Director and Training Center Manager.
• Ensures e-learnings are sent to students and monitors progress; closes classes timely and issues certifications.
• Provides coaching and feedback to students and validates skills through practice sessions.
• Tests students on skills and provides corrections; adheres to safety and cleanliness standards.
• Maintains program records and positive relations with students and staff; follows YMCA policies.
