Job Summary

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking qualified individuals for full-time Lifeguard positions. Our Recreation Center features a competition pool, a leisure pool with a water slide, a children's play area, and a hot tub. The role involves maintaining records and orienting new aquatics staff. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational skills, patience, and excellent communication abilities.

We are hiring for the following locations:

• Ashburn Recreation & Community Center, Ashburn, VA
• Dulles South Recreation & Community Center, South Riding, VA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Performing custodial and maintenance tasks to keep the aquatic facility safe and clean, preparing the pool for activities and events, and assisting with special events.
• Ensuring compliance with and enforcement of pool regulations and rules.
• Assisting with clerical duties, including scheduling and record-keeping.
• Providing excellent customer service.
• Rescuing distressed individuals using rescue techniques and equipment; alerting emergency personnel and providing emergency care as needed.
• Performing other related duties as required.

The work schedule offers flexibility and requires early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Lifeguarding Instructor, AED, and Supplemental Oxygen certifications preferred.
• Water Safety Instructor certification and memberships in the Virginia Recreation and Park Society and the National Recreation and Parks Association.
• One year of aquatic experience, including programming and pool management, working with the public, groups, and organizations.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must pass criminal background and credit checks. Must have Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, including First Aid and CPR, prior to starting work.
