Overview

THIS IS A TEMPORARY SUMMER-ONLY POSITION. Under general supervision, the Lifeguard’s primary responsibilities include guarding the pool, ensuring patron safety, enforcing pool rules, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions, and implementing emergency protocols. The position also involves administering aquatic programs such as teaching swim lessons, coaching the youth swim team, supervising group activities, and assisting with other aquatic events.

Responsibilities

1. Guard the pool and supervise patrons and the facility in accordance with health regulations.
2. Prevent emergencies through continuous scanning and perform rescues or assists as needed.
3. Assist in developing and implementing aquatic programs like swim lessons, youth swim team, stroke clinics, and water aerobics.
4. Maintain accurate pool records and sanitary conditions around the pool and locker rooms.
5. Ensure the pool meets health and safety standards, including proper chemical balance and water temperature.
6. Follow uniform regulations as per health code.
7. Attend all required training sessions.
8. Perform lifeguard surveillance and ensure coverage during pool operation hours.
9. Enforce pool rules to promote safety and prevent emergencies.
10. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Current Certification in Lifeguard Training, including Lifeguard skills, First Aid, and CPR/AED.
2. Knowledge of pool safety standards or willingness to learn.
3. Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
4. Minimum age of 16 years.
5. Good judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites preferred.
8. Ability to work effectively in diverse teams and backgrounds.
9. A work permit for candidates aged 16-17 is required.

Additional Information

This position has a waiver from the Boston Residency Ordinance, valid until January 4, 2027.
