Job summary

YMCA in Topeka, KS is seeking a Lifeguard I to promote a safe aquatic environment. Under the Aquatics Director, you will maintain lifeguard skills, actively scan the pool, and respond immediately to emergencies as they arise.

You will supervise participants, enforce all safety rules, report incidents within 24 hours, and participate in required trainings. This role requires a 16+ age, physical ability, and commitment to the YMCA mission.

Qualifications

• Must maintain lifeguard certification.
• Able to respond to medical emergencies.
• Maintain safety standards and supervise participants.
• Complete BLS/CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Certification in accordance with employment conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all lifeguard skills as required by lifeguard certification.
• Scan and position yourself for safety in the pool area at all times.
• Respond promptly and properly to medical emergencies.
• Supervise participants to ensure safety and enforce policies.
• Enforce YMCA policies, rules, and safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe pool activity immediately and implement emergency procedures.
• Report incidents/accidents within 24 hours to supervisor.
• Never leave the pool unattended; follow opening/closing procedures.
• Keep deck clean; perform assigned cleaning duties and record-keeping.
• Attend required trainings and maintain scheduled hours.
