We are hiring for a lifeguard at our Haslam Club! If you live close to South Knoxville and have your lifeguard certification, we need you! If you are looking for afternoon hours M-F between 2:30pm and 6pm, we have the perfect opportunity!

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Lifeguard is responsible for implementing and supervising activities within the pool area, shower area, and locker room following all licensing requirements.

KEY ROLES (Job Responsibilities):

Program Development and Implementation

  • Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure safety of members.Safety is the primary concern of the aquatics development worker.
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members and visitors.
  • Utilize programs that are fun and engaging to the members in aquatics area and allow all members to participate regardless of skill level.
  • Maintain a ratio of staff to members at 1:10.
  • Keep track of all members’ pool usage utilizing Visions tracking system.

Program Supervision

  • Provide active supervision continually interacting with all members providing motivation and encouragement.
  • Always set example of appropriate dress and monitor members swim attire helping them understand what is appropriate in the aquatics area.
  • Observe and test all club members before they participate in water activities. Know and understand the skill level of each member in your group.
  • Ensure that members understand and follow proper personal hygiene practices before and/or after swimming.
  • Discipline members fairly, consistently, and only according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings.

Prepare Youth for Success

  • Know the Youth Development Strategy- Instill in youth feelings of Belonging, Usefulness, Influence and Competence (BUIC).
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
    • promote and stimulate program participation.
    • create opportunities for development of strengths and competencies.
    • provide guidance and role modeling to members.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • May be required to be a monitor on the bus.
  • Complete trainings as required by licensing agency.
  • May be required to help out in multiple areas as needed.
  • Maintain and clean the pool and surrounding area.
  • Ensure pool has proper chemical levels in water.
  • Keep all swimwear provided by club clean and laundered.
  • Clean any other areas and bathrooms as needed at the end of day.
Qualifications

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Knowledge of Department of Education/ DHS Licensing Requirements
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Must be flexible and be able to work well with other team members
  • Ability to multitask
