Job summary

YMCA Lifeguards keep swimmers safe by monitoring activity, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies. You will help maintain water quality and assist members with inquiries, all while delivering outstanding service in a busy, family-friendly environment.

Qualified candidates will have lifeguard certification (or willingness to obtain YMCA-sponsored training), CPR/AED/First Aid, and the ability to swim 300 yards. Flexibility with daytime and evening shifts is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergencies.
  • Certified lifeguard with CPR/AED/First Aid or willing to obtain certification.
  • Ability to swim 300 yards continuously.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers to ensure safety.
  • Enforce pool rules while providing a welcoming experience.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide lifesaving care when needed.
  • Monitor pool chemical levels to keep water safe.
  • Keep pool deck and surrounding areas clean and hazard-free.
  • Assist members with questions and provide exceptional service.
  • Open and close the aquatic facility and perform daily tasks.
