Job summary

The Young Men’s Christian Association of Greater Montgomery is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, ensure safe swimming conditions, and uphold YMCA policies. You will monitor owner safety, perform chemical testing, and respond to emergencies with trained procedures.

Qualified candidates must hold current lifeguard certification (or equivalent), CPR/AED and first aid, and complete child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Certifications: Basic life support or CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
• Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of pool area.
• Review and follow emergency procedures and respond immediately per YMCA policies.
• Respond to challenges with possible solutions promptly.
• Apply safety rules for pool and aquatic areas consistently.
• Remain calm under pressure and during challenges.
• Keep accurate records as required by YMCA and state health codes.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of needed gear.
• Check pool for hazards upon arrival and during shifts.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding and take appropriate action.

Job description

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery in strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the "safe-in-six" model; completes related reports as required.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
