Job summary

Greater Somerset County YMCA in Somerset, NJ is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain pool safety and provide a positive, member-focused environment. This on-site role requires vigilance, teamwork, and adherence to YMCA policies.

Responsibilities include surveillance, responding to emergencies, assisting with lessons, equipment checks, and reporting. Certifications and physical readiness must be maintained. Part-time position with YMCA benefits, including membership and discounts.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills to YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Address member concerns and direct them to program areas.
• Assist with swim lessons and deck supervision as needed.
• Know and follow emergency procedures and complete required reports.
• Maintain safety records and follow health department codes.
• Walk pool perimeter and monitor for hazards.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
