Job summary

Greater Somerset County YMCA is hiring a part-time Lifeguard to maintain pool safety, surveillance and a welcoming atmosphere for members. You will ensure compliance with YMCA policies and health regulations while supporting swim programs and deck supervision.

The position requires minimum age 15, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid and Oxygen certifications, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15 and able to obtain YMCA certifications as required.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
• Ability to maintain certification readiness and demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.
• Strong observational and communication skills to supervise swimmers and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Addresses member concerns and supports the aquatic team.
• Assists with swim lessons and deck supervision as needed.
• Responds immediately to emergencies and completes required reports.
• Maintains safety rules and records in accordance with YMCA policies.
• Dresses in required lifeguard gear and maintains professional relationships.
