Job summary

The YMCA of Southern Maine is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid. You will position yourself to cover your assigned zone, maintain rescue readiness, and promote a safe, clean aquatics environment.

Flexible hours for PT and FT roles, with no experience required as free Lifeguard Certification is offered after committing to 12 weeks.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older.
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification; CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.
• Criminal background check is required and may include fingerprinting through OCFS, paid by YMCA of Southern Maine.
• Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Maintains rescue readiness at all times and actively scans assigned zone.
• Enforces non-swimmer protection and safety rules; takes corrective action as needed.
• Clears the pool when unsafe and follows manager guidance for off-scan duties.
• Promotes YMCA brand guidelines and participates in employee portal usage.
