Job summary

Collier County in Florida is hiring a Lifeguard to supervise pools, prevent accidents, and provide water safety education. You will monitor swimmers, perform rescues when needed, and help maintain cleanliness and safety at the aquatic facility.

Must have Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications; applicants must be 16+ and fingerprinting is required. Training and ongoing education are provided as part of this role.

Qualifications

• Must be sixteen years of age.

• Must possess and maintain Lifeguard, CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Monitors swimmers to determine if emergency life-saving services are needed; rescues distressed swimmers; and provides CPR/AED as needed.
• Prevents injuries by monitoring the facility and facility use; provides water safety education; and monitors water quality.
• Maintains skill level and readiness through drills, trainings, and conditioning.
• Ensures safety rules are followed and reports problems to supervisor.
• Provides basic first aid and restocks supplies; completes injury/accident reports.
• Provides customer service and information to visitors; assists the public.
• Sets up facility for daily use, events, and parties.
• Inspects equipment and facility for safety issues and reports findings.

NEW EMPLOYEES ARE HIRED AT, OR NEAR THE ENTRY POINT SHOWN, DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE. Ensures the safety of aquatic facility users by preventing accidents, providing water safety education, and executing professional lifesaving services to swimmers in need and maintain swimming pool and facility.

Essential Functions

• Monitors swimmers to determine if emergency life-saving services are needed; rescues distressed swimmers; and provides CPR/AED as needed.
• Prevents injuries by monitoring the facility and facility use; provides water safety education; and monitors water quality.
• Maintains high level of skill and emergency rescue readiness through drills, in-service trainings, and physical conditioning.
• Maintains discipline at facility; ensures that safety rules and regulations are followed; reports problems to supervisor; and assists with removal of patrons causing disturbances or an unsafe environment.
• Provides basic first aid; monitors first aid supplies; restocks first aid cabinets; and completes injury/accident reports.
• Provides customer service; answers questions and provides information to visitors; assists the public when clearing pools.
• Provides swim instruction through the Swim Central initiative; responsible for adjusting curriculum to meet individual student learning needs and end of program assessment; instructs aquatic exercise classes and assists with the development and implementation of program curriculum.
• Sets up facility for daily use, party rentals, and special events.
• Inspects operational and rescue equipment to ensure that it is in appropriate condition; inspects aquatic facility for possible safety problems and reports any findings to supervisor.
• Performs facility maintenance and minor repair duties such as waxing slides, vacuuming pool, cleaning pool tiles, cleaning restrooms, painting, and other cleaning and repair duties as assigned; reports facility maintenance concerns to supervisor.
• Monitors water quality through water testing, records result and notifies the on-deck supervisor if results are outside of Health Department standards.

Additional Functions

• Assists in development and implementation of aquatic activities and events.
• Assists with park special events.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be sixteen (16) years of age.
• Fingerprinting Required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

• Must possess and maintain a current Lifeguard certification.
• Must possess and maintain current CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid certification.

• Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
• Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
