Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a vigilant Lifeguard to supervise pool and aquatic areas, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies with CPR and rescue skills. The role emphasizes continuous monitoring, member engagement, and adherence to YMCA safety procedures.

Required certifications include Lifeguard, CPR/BLS, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration. Prior lifeguard experience is preferred, with training opportunities provided through the YMCA system.

Qualifications

• Must hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent such as ARC/Red Cross Lifeguard.
• Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or BLS) and First Aid is required.
• Emergency Oxygen Administration certification is required.
• Ability to maintain certification as a Lifeguard and complete trainings.
• Experience in lifeguard duties and water rescue skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain scanning of pool, deck and aquatic area to prevent hazards.
• Enforce pool rules and safety guidelines for all members and staff.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and perform rescue, CPR and related procedures.
• Complete reports and logs per YMCA and state health department codes.
• Engage with members to promote safety, engagement and program participation.
