Job summary

The Salvation Army in Sand Springs, OK is seeking a part-time lifeguard to safeguard pool operations and provide constant surveillance of swimmers. You will respond to emergencies, enforce pool rules, and maintain a safe, orderly pool area.

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and hold a Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Strong swimming ability, English communication, and the capacity to work day shifts are essential.

Job Summary

Serve as lifeguard for all pool operations; provide constant surveillance of pool activities.

Service Work (95%)

• Guards the safety of swimmers by providing constant surveillance of the entire pool area
• Directs and supervises the behavior of all swimmers to ensure compliance with pool safety rules
• Provides emergency lifesaving assistance to troubled or drowning swimmers; performs lifesaving CPR and First Aid in accordance with certified practices and procedures; contacts emergency medical assistance when needed; stays with victims until emergency medical assistance takes over care of the victim.
• Maintains neatness and cleanliness of the pool area; collects/disposes of trash; maintains neat and orderly pool office.

Other Responsibilities (5%)

• Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of life saving techniques and ability to perform them in emergency situations
• Ability to supervise swimmers and provide constant surveillance of pool activities in order to ensure swimmers' safety and to respond to emergency rescue when needed.
• Ability to enforce all swimming pool rules
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
• Ability to swim and meet lifesaving requirements

QualificationsEducation and Experience

Must be at least 15 years of age. Complete the required training to be a certified lifeguard AND six months experience as a lifeguard OR any equivalent demonstration of training or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.)

• Work is performed in an indoor pool environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with humidity, heat, noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
