Job description

Alfred University is seeking approximately four to eight Lifeguards to ensure the safety of patrons at an outdoor waterfront/recreation area. These positions are under general supervision and involve preventing and responding to emergencies.

Rate:

$16.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the safety of patrons during emergencies
2. Administer emergency care and treatment until medical services arrive
3. Maintain a professional appearance and high standard of customer service
4. Perform maintenance duties to keep the facility clean and safe
5. Prepare activity reports and perform other assigned duties
6. Provide information to visitors at Foster Lake Access

Requirements:

1. Current certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding (Waterfront Lifeguarding preferred) from a recognized source
2. Reliable transportation and a cell/smartphone
3. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies
4. Skill in lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
5. Ability to pass pre-employment lifeguarding and CPR skills evaluations
6. Regular practice of skills throughout the season
7. Ability to complete routine administrative paperwork
8. Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
9. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
10. Customer service skills
11. Ability to maneuver a watercraft with oars or paddles
12. Willingness and ability to swim in outdoor water environments
13. Willingness to spend time outdoors, interact with wildlife, and tolerate weather conditions
14. Preference for applicants over 18 years old due to work requirements
