Job summary

Job description

Salary: $18.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Seasonal Pay Rate: $22.00+ Hourly*
*Lifeguards employed from June 14 – September 5, 2025, will be paid $22.00+ Hourly*

The North Brooklyn YMCA is seeking Lifeguards responsible for ensuring safety in and around the swim area, promoting a positive and safe environment in line with YMCA policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Must be Rescue Ready: uniform, pocket face mask/gloves, whistle, and rescue tube.
• Continuously scan the pool area.
• Understand and follow the Emergency Action Plan and Evacuation Routes.
• Enforce safety rules fairly and consistently.
• Perform secondary duties when not lifeguarding.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Follow directives from YMCA Aquatic Supervisors per standards.
• Attain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire.
• Maintain certification and readiness, recertifying as needed.
• Participate in training, meetings, and events.

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
• Current Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications (if required).
• Ability to demonstrate swim strokes, rescues, and BLS/BFA/EO skills.
• Excellent hospitality skills.
• Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
