Established in 1960, John Knox Center began as a summer camp and Christian retreat. Over the years, it expanded beyond Presbyterian congregations to include other denominations, schools, businesses, and organizations. Our facilities host retreats, team-building events, and various programs year-round. The River Ridge Environmental Education Program, founded in 1994, is now one of East Tennessee's most popular outdoor education programs, hosting approximately 1,500-2,000 participants annually during fall and spring. Summer camp remains the heart of our ministry, with around 200 campers and 15 staff members from around the world each summer, fostering a close-knit Christian community.
We are a ministry of the Presbytery of East Tennessee (PCUSA). We believe everyone has a place at camp and actively welcome, affirm, and support individuals of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities.
