Job summary

The University of Utah is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise the natatorium during instructional programs, athletic meets, youth education, and special events. You will help ensure a safe, enjoyable environment and protect pool facilities during opening and closing.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, maintaining safety, and reporting equipment or maintenance needs while staying current with certifications and participating in trainings.

Qualifications

• Must possess current lifeguard certification.
• Previous lifeguard experience preferred.

Job Summary

Reports to the Pool Manager who works directly with the Exerciseand Sport Science Department. Lifeguards are responsible for the supervision of the pool area during instructional program hours, athletic swim meets, youth education programs, and all otherspecial events scheduled in the natatorium. Lifeguards may beresponsible for opening and securing the pool facilities along withensuring that a safe and enjoyable environment is maintained

Responsibilities

• Oversee the pool and swimmers at all times to ensure a safeenvironment.
• Enforce rules and regulations regarding the safe andproper use of the pool and deck area.
• Secure pool facility uponopening and closing.
• Maintain daily usage statistics.
• Completeand maintain the required pool chemical testing forms and safetycheck-list forms.
• Report equipment, supplies, safety, andmaintenance needs.
• Prepare pool facilities for scheduledactivities.
• Prepare incident reports when appropriate.
• Maintaincourteous relations with all participants and insist that allswimmer conduct is suitable for a safe pool atmosphere.
• UnderstandCollege of Health policies relating to the pool, and answer allquestions courteously and correctly.
• Respond to and follow allappropriate emergency procedures.
• Attend all Lifeguard meetingsand in-service training.
• Maintain current certifications andphysical fitness in order to perform rescue skills.
• Ability toprovide positive customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess current lifeguard certification

Preferences

• Previous lifeguard experience.
• Awareness of safety concerns and risk management.
